- Base Capabilities
The Nirvana VSAN is a SAN Appliance Powered by DataCore™ disk server and
bundled with the Virtini VMM Software Suite, and includes the following
essential features:
- iSCSI disk emulation. Serves well-behaved virtual disks to popular
operating systems using standard iSCSI protocol over Ethernet. Supports
allocation requests from Windows Virtual Disk Services (VDS).
- Support for numerous types of disk drives. Supports any disk drives
qualified for Windows (i.e. SCSI, EIDE, Fibre Channel, SATA, etc.) and
transparently bridges between the drive interface and the iSCSI or
optional Fibre Channel host connection.
Fibre Channel Disk Emulation Option: Serves well-behaved
virtual disks to popular operating systems using Fibre Channel
connections. Supports allocation requests from Windows Virtual Disk
Services (VDS).

- I/O read and write caching. The Nirvana VSAN has 16GB to 32GB cache
volume to improve application response time.
- Secure LUN allocation (access controls). Prevents unauthorized host
access to virtual disks not explicitly assigned to them.
- Supports Windows Server 2003 Storage Services. Virtual Disk Services
(VDS), Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS), and Multi- path I/O (MPIO).
Administrators benefit from a standard methodology for invoking disk
services, setting up snapshots and supporting muti-path redundancy
across a spectrum of workloads and storage devices.

- Virtual LUNs. Divides or aggregates physical disks to meet various
capacity requirements.
- Intuitive administrative GUI. Uses Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
Snap-ins for simple point and click configuration and management.
- Performance displays. Leverages Windows' built-in Perfmon to trace
Nirvana VSAN -specific performance counters.
- Event logging. Assists in troubleshooting via Windows' built-in Event
Viewer and event log.

- Auto Failover (HA) Option: Synchronously mirrors writes between a pair
of Nirvana VSAN Appliances using Fibre Channel connections. Both
Appliances may actively process
I/Os with one handling primary paths for some of the volumes and
secondary paths for others. In the event of a failure, the companion
server takes over with the mirrored volumes. Hosts must be adequately
configured with qualified multi-pathing drivers to take advantage of
this automatic failover feature. Each Nirvana VSAN Appliance must be separately licensed with the
HA option.
- High Availability Alternate Path Software: The Nirvana VSAN provides
several alternate path software solutions for application servers that
ensure continued I/O access in the case of a physical path failure.

(Real-time Business Continuity or backup), and VM Cloning needs of SME
and Enterprise customers.

- Virtini Oasis allows VM Virtual hard disks to be synchronized across
Virtual servers in minutes, not hours! Physical to Virtual replication
for offsite or Virtual to Virtual for Disaster Recovery
- Virtini Oasis will automatically update all copies of virtual hard disk
files with no intervention.
- Virtini Oasis can also replicate and synchronize data between virtual
machines or a combination of virtual machine and physical machines.
- Virtini Oasis Byte Replicator: Intelligent Block Level File Transfer
option allows you to transfer just the changed data in a VM virtual disk
file when synchronizing, instead of the entire file across the network.
Byte-Level Replication can be beneficial when trying to synchronize
large files where only a small amount of data has changed, or when there
is a slow connection between the source machine and target machine.

- Virtini Mint provides the ability to take point in time OS configuration
VM snapshots live while the operating system is running. This ensures that changes can be made
to a guest or a host, and incrementally backed up without administrative
intervention. The snapshots can
also be restored without administrative intervention.
- Virtini Mint also alleviates the common problem for configuration of
virtualized guests on ESX and GSX Server, regarding the labor of
resetting or reconfiguring virtual machines for use by individuals or
administrators that shouldn’t be authorized to access the host server or
in some cases, even be aware that it exists.
- Virtini Mint allows authorized administrators or end users to reset or
change a virtual machine’s configuration without any administrator
intervention and without needing to give them access to the remote
console or other management applications that could cause problems on
the host server.
